Arcade is the genre, so don’t expect the game to be too realistic. Despite that, everything is drawn very well, though small objects (like mice and cockroaches) look more natural than cars or buildings. The designers didn’t even try to scale them realistically; it’s a game about cats eating cars and buildings, so what’s realism got to do with it? Still, the toy style suits the game.

A brief introduction tells you the beginning: some inventor brings a catlike robot (OK, let it be a cat) to a café to use it for cleaning the floor. The cat appears to be too good at this job: it utilizes the consumed items to grow, and soon, after eating enough peas and cockroaches, it notices mice, and then furniture and people. Furthermore, it seems never to stop growing when it takes to the streets.

You control this insatiable creature and head to the nearest object you can eat. It’s reasonable to pay your attention to the biggest items you can swallow because they provide the biggest increment.

After completing the first world, about cat’s adventures, you unlock others. They offer you, different omnivorous creatures, from a bee and a rat to an octopus. The final world introduces The Grey Goo from apocalyptic horrors about nanorobots destroying the world.

The gameplay is amusing (a cat that moves cars and then swallows them is fun to see), but the behavior of the objects of your appetite disappoints. They walk as if nothing happens, while your creature approaches and bites them (though they start acting differently at later levels). It would have been more fun to see them scared, trying to escape, right from the start. Not only would it be more realistic, but the gameplay would also benefit from it.

The game is meant for PC, so you can control your character in any possible way. You can use your mouse, arrow keys, WASD or touchpad to move your character, and nothing else is required. There’s no need to switch the controls manually; all of them are active at the same time. But you can adjust the sensitivity in Options.

In two-player mode, one player is using the mouse, while the other has the arrow keys. Two cats or other creatures are on the screen simultaneously.

Replay Value 5/5

The game contains a lot of levels, and each of them can bring you up to three stars if you complete the mission in certain time. If you didn’t receive all three, you can replay the level. The more you play, the more you learn the perfect tactics, so you can improve your results. And, anyway, it’s fun to set such a destructive raid with a cute cat or bee!

Conclusion

It’s not the first installment in this series, and all the games of Tasty Planet have the same setting. This Tasty Planet Forever review applies also to the other games because they’re based on the same idea, with design and compatibility improved with years. The game is also available for Android and iOS, but it appears there’s no way to sync your progress between PC and mobile devices.
