Fortnite Battle Royale Went on Downtime for Season X
Fortnite Battle Royale Season X has just begun, and it brought epic changes into anything, from the map to weapons. But before it started, all the players in the world had an hour or two to go abstinent.
There is a reason for that. The new season with all its updates requires large patches, both on the client’s and the server’s side. You know, the game becomes unplayable while you’re downloading and installing an update. The same has been happening on the servers, so the game was off for the entire community.
The season started on August 1, and this time the patch contained more changes and updates than any of the previous. So installing and applying it logically took longer. The downtime started at 4 am ET / 1 am PT. The players had been warned with a tweet by Epic posted a day earlier.
It has been for a bit longer than two hours, and the time might have been different for various servers. The same is with patches to download or any platform (will be, as you might be a little late to do the updating immediately, but we recommend hurrying).
Heavily Innovating
Why are the patches so large? The possible answer is that this time they change the physics as well as the terrain. You may have seen the official trailer for Season X, with Jonesy entering no gravity zone after an orb explosion above the Loot Lake, and various items floating around him. There are low- or no-gravity zones on the island now, and implementing various physics with the same engine is probably the biggest complication.
As for weapons, many of them are vaulted now. Alas, Tactical Assault Rifle, Semi-Auto Sniper, and Mounting Turret are listed too.
On the other hand, now we have B.R.U.T.E., a great and terrible mech for two players. Well, one player can be the driver and the gunner simultaneously, but the practice shows that duos do better. B.R.U.T.E. can smash enemies or stomp them down, shoot them with regular shotguns or missile launchers, and protect its passengers with its massive armor. This is meant to be controversial, and, while any player will have enough time to shape its attitude, the community will hardly unite over it.
See It with Your Own Eyes
Finally, as we have already said, the island has been reshaped by the epic interlude battle in the final of Season IX. There is a meteor hanging in the sky above (and you can land on it), an exploding orb over Loot Lake (and you can enter it), and Dusty Depot restored (but a little altered, as it always happens when you’re back to life). The map will gradually change during the season, but these changes will cause no more downtimes.
