Lyft
Lyft is one of the most popular apps for finding rides and paying for them with your credit card. You need no cash and no phone call to order a trip, wherever you are and whatever you want to get.
Functionality — 5/5
Lyft review in terms of functionality could have been copied from any similar app. You start searching for your ride, and the app sends out your location; if it isn’t defined correctly, you can adjust it manually. After you locate your destination, it shows you an approximate cost and the nearest drivers, so you can select. Then you can trek the driver approaching you, and, as you both approach the destination, you are charged automatically.
Design — 4/5
There isn’t much difference between taxi apps in terms of design. Most of the screen is taken by the map where you locate your destination and adjust your current position if necessary. All the settings sections and menus are designed in a most familiar and intuitive manner. Android and iOS apps are very similar, so even if you switch, Lyft remains the same.
Usability — 4/5
If you are a passenger, it’s yet another taxi app that follows the approved scheme described above. It’s as common as Uber and most local ride services offer, so you won’t have to relearn. Signing up is easy and can be done with Facebook or Google, but you’ll still have to confirm your credit card manually.
The driver app uses its own navigating system, different from what Uber uses, so you better be careful: it doesn’t reflect tunnel specifics in some cities, routing the driver to the wrong level. But you can correct it yourself, explaining the nuances. In general, it works just properly.
One of Lyft’s special offers suggests $1M liability insurance for passengers while they are taking their rides with Lyft. Its popularity has also been boosted after Uber took awkward actions concerning an anti-Trump protest in 2017.
If you’re satisfied with your ride, you can hand the driver a tip digitally, along with high star rate, right from the app.
Cross-Platform Use — 5/5
Lyft is available not only on Android and iOS, but even on the sinking Windows Phone as well. Probably it will remain there until it’s ultimately dropped. The app can be downloaded from most countries, but issues with cards are reported, and driver apps aren’t available in many of these, so you better make sure that you can use Lyft correctly in the country of your interest by reading reviews.
In-App Purchases
The primary sort of purchase in Lyft is, logically, a ride. You need to use your credit card credentials to make sure your ride will be paid for anyway. You are warned from the start that prices for the same route may vary, depending on the market situation.
The Bottom Line
Lyft is quite a good app for finding a ride, with driver tests, rating system, and easy navigation, though sometimes failing at really complicated missions. Common sense tells that it’s better to have multiple taxi apps to have more choice when a certain service is overloaded; so it makes sense to install Lyft along with Uber, Bolt, or whatever taxi app you use.
Working almost worldwide;
Rating system for drivers;
$1M insurance for passengers.
Navigation doesn’t always direct the driver correctly
