Uber Driver
Uber Driver is the app used by drivers to accept requests for rides made by passengers. If you want to use Uber for earning money, you’ll necessarily need this app.
Functionality — 5/5
This app combines communicating and navigating features. It accepts requests from potential passengers and displays it, and you can accept a request and go to the passenger’s location if you’re interested. Then it tracks whether you deliver the client to their destination, and charges them if yes. The app also informs you about service innovations and stores your ride history.
Design — 5/5
This app is designed for the ones behind the wheel, so it needs to be readable at a glance. That’s OK with this app. The map is of high contrast, the messages are in large fonts, and the readability is high. If you are used to working with navigation apps, Uber Driver will not surprise you. But we’d recommend using tablets or phones with large screens. Even a 4.7” iPhone is too small to use it comfortably, so you better have at least a 5.5 phone.
Usability — 5/5
The interface of this app, as well as Uber Driver’s backend, is made by pros for pros. It combines the navigator and the messenger delivering you news on current requests and on service changes or events. The designers realize that this app will often be used while driving, so there’s nothing to distract you from the essence.
To register, you’ll need to provide scans of your documents (license, insurance and so on), and in some countries some extra documents to provide correct taxing. It’s the most complicated part of registration, but usually, it’s done within days. Then you benefit all the privileges of a licensed Uber driver, including some extra bonuses local businesses may provide.
As you’ll mostly need this app active and not interrupted by others, you better dedicate a special smartphone or a tablet with a cellular module to run Uber Driver. Position it like a navigator and use exclusively for Uber Driver. It won’t be too expensive, but it takes its usability to another level.
Cross-Platform Use — 5/5
The app is available for iOS and Android; there is no app for Windows Phone and no desktop interface, as the driver is necessarily mobile. The apps offer the same functionality and similar interface, so, if you decide or have to switch, it won’t cause you any inconveniences. Even old smartphones (of 2013-14) are capable of handling Uber Driver.
In-App Purchases
If you are qualified to be an Uber driver, you don’t pay extras for the app itself; it’s paid from the commission received by Uber. On the other hand, your tips remain yours. Of course, these earnings are subject to taxing, but it’s not done with this app.
The Bottom Line
Uber Driver is a necessary app for earning extra money with your car. Of course, installing Uber Driver only partly does the work, but the rest is better to read on Uber official site than in this Uber Driver review.
Made for using while driving;
Built-in navigator and messenger;
Requires little space.
The app needs a special phone used in a navigator manner.
