Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the 2019 installment of the famous military action saga. This time the developers made the visuals more spectacular, and the approach to war stories more mature, more complicated than “us-versus-them”. Download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) for PC, PS4 or Xbox One, and see what a war action game should be like in 2019.

Graphics 5/5

Like any new installment, this one shows improved visuals and more realistic physics. It looks like a war movie, with blood and gore, explosions and shots, the wounded and the dead. Of course, there are more details, better lighting, more modern environment. Weapons are made with a special attitude, and It results in the enormous 175 GB it will take on your hard drive, no matter if you play on a PC or on a console.

Gameplay 5/5

Modern Warfare is a restart for the series. In single mode, you play as a CIA officer suddenly involver into a counter-terrorist operation. It will make you shoot and hide, make decisions and face their consequences, and still, you will be wrong. It will take you to England, Russia, Moldova, or pseudo-Syria, and there will always be enemies to kill and allies to protect.

To make the game more realistic, the developers reworked its interface. For example, HUD is now removable, and the minimap is replaced with a compass. But the essence remains: it’s a first-person shooter, with metal that rusts, firearms that require reloading, enemies that bleed when hit (so are allies, and so are you). Cutscenes contribute to this experience, channeling the story where it should turn. By the way: Captain John Price knows the secret of eternal youth, but he won’t tell.

Along with the complicated terror and espionage story, there will be lots of action. But if you prefer action served pure, there are several multiplayer modes. It includes team combats as well as analogs of Battle Royale.

Controls 5/5

As the game is available for both consoles and PC, it supports gamepads as well as keyboard and mouse. The developers decided not to reinvent the wheel. The default scheme involving buttons and two joysticks (or WASD + mouse) is still working, and it hasn’t been proved that some input grants the player a noticeable advantage. Even less, it matters in single-player mode.

Replay Value 5/5

Even the main campaign is worth replaying it, as the more you play, the more detail you notice. You may also try making different choices, changing the moral attitude of your character; what if you make him a villain or a practical cynic? But there is also multiplayer, with different approaches, from a sort of Battle Royale to conventional team combat. Luckily, there is no zombie mode, but it isn’t that necessary in this explicit installment.

The Bottom Line

Despite greatly revamped visuals, 4K support, new detail, and lighting level and updated weapons and armors, the biggest innovation in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is it's grey moral. There is no good side and bad side, there aren’t even distinct us and them. There are conflicts that are solved with the right solution as well as with a sharp shot. That’s what makes it one of the most tragic and the most powerful installments of the series.
