It’s a convenient real-time information board for Direct Express cardholders and a navigator that will help you to find the nearest ATM with the lowest withdrawal fee or without it. It’s also a handy companion that can send you custom alerts on everything that matters to you the most.

It seems that MasterCard doesn’t really care about the appearance of their mobile services. Direct Express latest version looks like it was released in 2012. Especially, it goes to Direct Express Android version that doesn’t even have a quick navigation menu at the bottom. The iOS version looks slightly better due to the navigation bar, but still pretty much outdated.

Usability – 4.5/5

Direct Express is the only way to manage your eponymous account on the go. Of course, you can try the web version, but we advise to avoid it to save nerves. This app is easy to navigate, even though it looks quite old. The list of services is not that big, but some of the essential options are present. You can view the history of your activity related to both active balance and the deposit. It’s useful, but the provided information is superficial and includes the date, location, and a sum.

Next must-have feature is the ATM locator, which works just fine but doesn’t display partner ATMs. Automatic alerts are customizable so that you could enable and disable them in terms of necessity. Unfortunately, there’s no ready-made list of alerts, so you have to create them manually. Other features offer you to take a virtual tour through options of your card and other additional info.

You can install Direct Express almost on any device. It must run iOS 9.0, Android 4.0, or any later versions. You can also enter your account from any web browser using the same credentials.

In-app purchases

If you are a cardholder of MasterCard Direct Express, the app is free for you. You’re not required to pay any extra fees for using the service. It’s not supported by ads as well, so you won’t be interrupted.

The Bottom Line

It’s not the best app for banking, but it’s the best way to deal with your Direct Express card account. It has all the basics but strongly lacks in-app transactions to online payment systems and other cards. It’s also can’t be launched with a fingerprint scanner, so it takes some time to get into. Let’s hope that the next Direct Express review will uncover new features.
