MISTOVER
MISTOVER is a niche role-playing game by the KRAFTON studio. Although it’s the debut title of the team, it’s played really well. Turn-based combat combined, a thrilling story, Japanese culture elements, and excellent painted handmade visuals are impressive. You can try the Steam demo or download MISTOVER for Windows and Nintendo Switch. The PS4 version is coming soon (this October).
Graphics – 4.5/5
MISTOVER game visuals are certainly not for everyone, but it doesn’t make them less stylish and original. It’s a previously unseen mixture of grotesque, anime culture, hand-drawn digital art, and perfect animation style. This game is entirely 2D, but the inventive separation of the scene on multiple layers makes it look incredibly deep and at some point, realistic. Such game design supports the emotions of characters and unleashes the real potential of the story.
Gameplay – 4.5/5
Mankind is on the edge of extinction. Not many heroes are still alive to stand still and protect the remains of our civilization from the powers of darkness. For unknown reasons, the terrible creatures go away to their dimensions, but it’s definitely not the end. The survivors decide to unite their powers to fight against despair and to win at least a chunk of hope when the second parish happens. You join the small army called Corps that heads towards the Vortex, a place where creatures were first seen, to figure out what actually happened and why. Their way is full of challenging quests, complicated internal moral conflicts, and death. Each of your team members has only one life to go, so you have to keep saves neat and do your best to save your best warriors. MISTOVER gameplay is full of fresh mechanics and surprising solutions.
Controls – 5/5
MISTOVER is a cross-platform franchise, so you may be sure about the convenience of both keyboard-plus-mouse and controller inputs. Nintendo Switch’s joy-cons felt just right when we tested the game them for this MISTOVER review. The layout of buttons on the PC is fully adjustable, but the tip-icons may neglect to adapt sometimes.
Replay Value – 5/5
The final version of the MISTOVER full game provides you with over 40 hours of clean gameplay. You can take part in expeditions to 5 different regions. It gets even more exciting when you figure out that all locations are constantly changing, adding a nice roguelike spice to the whole thing. You can also experiment with character combinations and practice a different approach to fighting because every wrong move activates a chain of consequences.
The Bottom Line
MISTOVER is one of the worthiest RPG experiences of 1029. It’s remarkable for its unique art style and the natural combination of gameplay mechanics from classic genres, including roguelike. The touching story is told with the right angle and emotional message, so it’s impossible to stand from empathizing them.
