In the game, his mission is to save the world and its inhabitants from the evil scientist names Dr. Eggman. The doctor captures animals and turns them into robots that are called Badniks. He wants to rule the entire world and needs six mystical gemstones to make him even more powerful. The goal of Sonic in this game is to stop Dr. Eggman from achieving his goals by destroying his newly created robots, saving his animal friends, and also making sure that he finds the gemstones first.

Sonic has to run through different levels, and there are 6 game zones that include different enemies and robots. When playing as Sonic, you can speed up when there are no obstacles, collect coins on your way, curl into a ball, jump, and attack.

The game is easy to play even for complete beginners as there are only a few actions you need to control, such as jumping, walking or running, spin jump, spin attack, and some others.
