Celeste
The game Celeste is considered one of the real masterpieces of 2018. It’s an adventure platformer that consists of plenty of handcrafted challenges. In Celeste, players control the girl Madeline who has to reach the top of the Mount Celeste by defeating various demons. The rise consists of 700 levels (screens) on which the heroine is going to encounter opponents, traps, and other dangers.
Celeste worth downloading if you are searching for the game with the sense. If you haven’t still heard of this title, in our Celeste review we will prove you should faster get your hands on it.
Graphics — 4.5/5
The visual performance of Celeste does not seem to be unique. At first glance, it’s another pixel platformer among so many others. The 8-bit implementation is rather simple yet flawless. But after playing for some time, you will notice how great the game graphics are.
There are no lags, glitches, or bugs regarding the game visuals. Characters’ movement is spotless, and all the elements are well-drawn: from the tiniest cloud to any natural phenomenon such as snow or wind.
Celeste was created to become the new golden mean between classic hardcore and modern convenience. Celeste looks like many other similar creations, but it is distinguished by perfectly adjusted gameplay and an amazing story.
Gameplay — 5/5
The graphical imperfection of the game goes by the wayside when it comes to the gameplay. The plot will capture you from the very beginning. With the central character Madeline, you will climb the magnificent Celeste Mountain. What is the primary goal of your journey? Who knows, it seems like it’s an allegory of self-search.
Celeste is a classic platformer where the main character must overcome many obstacles and reach her goal. From the very beginning, the player should get used to the fact that he will die plenty of times. In addition, Celeste continually introduces new elements that make it necessary to revise your tactics over time.
As the adventure progresses, Celeste encounters various characters, each with its own secret or story. As we go through, we find out that Celeste is a mountain with magical properties. Gradually, the story becomes more and more interesting. Madeleine fights not with monsters, but with herself. The game addresses the themes of self-loathing, anxious neurosis, stress, depression, panic attacks, and so on. This is an incredibly deep story, especially considering seemingly simple first impression.
Celeste lets you use strategic skills and boost your willpower to conquer the mountain. Your mission is to help Madeline achieve what she wants despite different obstacles.
Controls — 5/5
The controls of the Celeste game are intuitive and straightforward. However, the simplicity of controls is compensated by the craziness of surrealistic levels which make the game incredibly difficult. At the same time, the player can greatly simplify the task without making the gameplay less exciting.
The style of pixel art pleases with a variety of designs and allows you to make precise movements. The main campaign is rather short, but additional levels can correct this shortcoming. There are no hard controls which the players need to practice for hours. Just control Madeline jumping through different obstacles or high platforms. There is also a dedicated key which lets her climb in the game.
Replay Value — 4/5
Celeste takes not much time for playing. When you once reach the top of the mountain, the chances are thin you would like to replay the game. Of course, there are over 600 challenges which can attract you once again. But when the player gets to know the end of the story, the charms somehow dissipate.
The Bottom Line
Celeste is the classic adventure with addictive gameplay. The game is full of unique charm and secrets. While helping Madeline conquer the Celeste Mountain, you need to do everything possible to help the girl fight her inner demons. For all the fans of the adventure genre, Celeste is the title to hold you long with.
