Chernobylite
Chernobylite is an FPS survival horror game by The Farm 51. It’s an action-packed, mysterious story full of fear, despair, and radiation in which you will explore the post-catastrophe Chernobyl, one of the most dangerous places on Earth today. You can download Chernobylite on Steam and start your nuclear path today. The beta is also available for PS4 and Xbox One.
Graphics – 5/5
The first thought was to compare the visuals of the new Chernobylite game with STALKER installments, but the time gap between them is too big. Chernobylite latest version is incredibly detailed and deep due to the unlimited capabilities of Unreal Engine 4 by Epic. The game has pretty poor funding, but developers seem to overwork nights and days to make it look so great.
Gameplay – 5/5
Chernobylite gameplay involves traditional FPS mechanics along with some STALKER-classic stuff like radiation detection, stealth action in battles with villainous human beings and horrible monsters, and many more. You play a daredevil physicist who used to work at Chernobyl Nuclear Plant. He suffers a lot because his wife died of radiation in 1986 and decides to come back 30 years after and find her. Your way will be exceptionally difficult because everything has changed a lot in the formerly peaceful and familiar area. You will encounter numerous NPCs with side storylines and 9 extensive main missions that will take you around the entire exclusion zone. Like in real life, there’s always a probability that you lose a partner and fail tasks. Besides, you will have to learn the native crafting system to fix and upgrade your gear and prepare to unveil horrible secrets and truth about the protagonist’s wife. This story is a real weeper.
Controls – 5/5
Chernobylite survival horror was initially created for PC, but the plans of developers now include releases for PS4 and Xbox One, so controller support is implemented too. The current version that we tested for this Chernobylite review had some minor response issues, but they’re easily fixable in the controller settings.
Replay Value – 5/5
Currently, Chernobylite full game has around 8 hours of the storyline. The entire gameplay may take up to 20 hours due to the massive map size and highly detailed locations with numerous NPCs for you to interact with. The final version may also have a multiplayer mode, but it’s not proved. It’s not about multiplayer, anyway.
The Bottom Line
Chernobylite by The Farm 51 became a real hit before the official release. The Chernobyl tragedy setting attracts many people, so the title gains massive support from the gaming community. The last Kickstarted campaign brought developers almost $150,000. The release is planned for this fall, and it’s going to be a huge thing.
Fascinating non-linear story;
High-quality Early Access builds;
Good price.
The setting may be strange for western players.
