Crashlands is a 2D action-adventure RPG game with elements of survival and an open world. It was developed and published by Butterscotch Shenanigans in 2016. In this game, you have to play as an interstellar messenger whose spacecraft crashed on the Woanope planet. Your mission is to call an evacuator and avoid being killed by a villain Hewgodooko. Crashlands game was originally designed for mobile devices, but it looks well on other platforms too. Visuals in this isometric 2D game are made of smooth vector shapes, so it looks rather cartoon-like. All objects are scalable, so the game looks sharp on all displays.

In the game, you have to control a space messenger named Flux and his robot-assistant JuiceBox. His ship crashed because a villain Hewgodooko have stolen a crucial part of it. Your primary mission is to find special batteries to activate the SOS-beacon, but the dangerous villain needs them too. You have to solve multiple quests to be the first to reach the batteries.

There are several types of quests in Crashlands gameplay. They require you to craft different items, fight unique monsters, deliver parcels. The tasks are usually simple, but some monsters need an individual approach. It means that you have to possess specific items or armor to defeat them. For this purpose, you should complete all currently available side-quests and main quests, because they unlock essential stuff. Using these items you can move further and open new chapters.

It’s important to say in this Crashlands review that about 60% of the gameplay consists of dialogues. The protagonist is just a listener, while other characters are very talkative. Every conversation is charged with sparkling humor, cultural references. You must read all the dialogues to get the idea of what is what. Fortunately, you can access all automatically saved dialogues on the go to clarify details.

Though the game was originally designed for mobile platforms, it’s quite convenient to play it with keyboard-plus-mouse or a gamepad. The Crashlands latest version is perfectly optimized for all devices.

Replay Value 4.5/5

Crashlands full game walkthrough takes about 12 hours. All missions are rather short, so it’s a great game to kill time during breaks and commuting (no Internet requirements). After full completion, you are not likely to compete it once more. This game is exciting, but it doesn’t present different endings.

The Bottom Line

Crashlands is an excellent action game for mobile devices and Switch. The PC version doesn’t have any particular differences, but it’s not a type of a game for PCs. However, the game provides a very quality plot with lots of hilarious jokes and references, so it’s worth at least a single walkthrough.
