Anime-styled MMOs are so commonplace now, and Kritika: REBOOT intendedly exploits all the clichés of the genre. It features 3D third-person view, so you can fully enjoy the combination of your character’s brutal manners and kawaii appearance. There is usually little time to give monsters a thorough look, but through the action they look terrible. Magical special effects are colorful and bright, and the environment is majestic.

It’s a brawler; enough said. If you like this action-packed manner with everything hyper than hyper, you’ll appreciate its giant blades and impossible tricks, enormous monsters and mass destruction hand weapons. Especially if your character looks like a tender big-eyed girl.

No matter if you play solo or with your team, the mission is the same. There are dungeons infested with various monsters. Your job is to extinguish them as quickly as possible. The less time it takes, the bigger is your reward.

In its RPG hypostasis, Kritika: REBOOT lets you choose your character and upgrade his or her class, getting rewarded for your success. In the beginning, it seems easy, due to simplification of the gameplay. The developers ditched stamina to avoid waiting for it to recover.

It may be hard to understand the storyline, because this game is originally in Korean, and its translation into English is far from perfect. If some reply gets you confused, though, you may search what it originally means… Heh, as if it mattered!

It’s a shame that the game is designed for keyboard and mouse controls only and doesn’t natively support gamepads. It would only fit its dynamic style. As for keyboard and mouse, they are used the most traditional way, with WASD to move, cursor to look around, simple left-click to slice every enemy around, and so on. Maybe ditching controllers is justified for multiplayer mode, as it equalizes all players. For solo mode, though, you can map it with Xpadder.

Replay Value 3/5

Games like this are stupid and full of energy; you don’t need to return to the same level again, you go here when you want some fast, fast action. Grouping up is fun when you learn to understand each other. On the other hand, the pace of this game is addictive. If you prefer action-packed games to contemplative ones, this is the one to return to.

Kritika: REBOOT is a very specific, reflex-based game that will satisfy your need for speedy action with RPG elements. It doesn’t have depths to discover (like Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher 3, or Death Stranding); it’s another sort. It’s free to play, yet you can purchase the Starter Pack with bonuses. You’ll also need some purchases if you reach high levels; but if it delivers you the kicks (in all the meanings), why not?
