Minecraft Dungeons
Minecraft Dungeons is a brand new Minecraft-style dungeon crawler game developed by Mojang in collaboration with Double Eleven. In the game, you can choose a player, customize it, and explore a vast roguelike universe to discover new details of the dark story and defeat the villainous antagonist. You can download Minecraft Dungeons for your PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Graphics – 4.5/5
Minecraft Dungeons game visuals are inspired by the original franchise, but the 1st person perspective is changed to the isometric 3D camera that follows the character from above. The game also has a new physical engine that doesn’t allow you to destroy and rebuild the entire landscape. Still, the game looks very attractive with reworked lighting, shading, and enhanced special effects attached to weapons and magic spells. Unfortunately, Minecraft Dungeons latest version doesn’t support Ray Tracing, but we hope that the feature will come with updates for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Gameplay – 4.5/5
Minecraft Dungeons gameplay doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It’s a simple roguelike dungeon crawler with randomized hack-&-slash battles against classic monsters from the original Minecraft and multiple new types of enemies and bosses. You can enter the battle with a unique customize character and change its appearance and gear as you progress. There’s no class system so that you can utilize any weapon type and get maximal benefits from its features.
The entire universe of the game is randomly generated. However, the terrains change over time, and you encounter all bosses and various story events independently from the direction you choose.
Controls – 5/5
Minecraft Dungeons system requirements let you play with a controller or keyboard and mouse on your PC, and with a controller on consoles. If you play on Nintendo Switch, you can enjoy local multiplayer with a friend by sharing detachable joycons in the tabletop mode.
Replay Value – 4/5
Minecraft Dungeons full game walkthrough may take from 8 to 12 hours, depending on the difficulty level and the number of side quests you decide to complete. The plot doesn’t change from your decisions, and the main purpose – the overthrow of the malicious Arch Illager – is always the same. You can replay the game with your friends to make your experience more fun and unpredictable. The game is simple enough to embark on the adventure with inexperienced players and avoid frequent game over.
The Bottom Line
Although there were no surprises during the walkthrough of the game for this Minecraft Dungeons review, the game deserves a high mark. It’s a fun and relaxing dungeon crawler with tons of unique loot, hilarious creatures, and medium-difficulty enemies. It’s a must-have spin-off for every Minecraft fan and a cool simple game for those who want to get introduced to the genre. Download Minecraft Dungeons and enjoy exploring a brand new Minecraft-based universe.
