Professional Review

Portal 2 is a 1st person 3D puzzle game by Valve Corporation. It’s an excellent sequel of Portal with more missions and jokes. You play as Chell, the navigator of Aperture Science Enrichment Center. You have to travel through testing facilities solving multiple dimensional puzzles using a portal gun. You can download Portal 2 for your PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Graphics 5/5

Portal 2 game is made on Valve’s Source engine, so it looks very smooth, bright, and saturated. Unlike the original chapter, in this game, you will see not only clear white test chambers but also abandoned dirty and verdurous ones. During the game you will see new levels and aged chambers from the original chapter. Though the game is 8 years old, it’s still quite impressing.

Gameplay 5/5

Portal 2 gameplay is based on solving of perspective puzzle games using a portal gun. This tool allows you to create two portals to enter in one place and exit in another.. You can place them anywhere you need. In the game, you cannot die from falling on the ground. You can only receive penalties for getting into bottomless pits or toxic waste products. If Chell dies, she returns to the latest checkpoint. For the ease of play, portals are made visible through obstacles.

You can play the game solo or in cooperative with a friend. In the first mode, you play as Chell and experience the main campaign. The second tells a separate story of two robots Atlas and P-body. Every level of the game offers you to experience testing of different puzzle-solving techniques, so there are no repetitive gameplay elements. Co-op campaign levels require you and your partner to use both portal guns to solve puzzles.

It’s important to say in this Portal 2 review that this chapter is much longer than the original. Non-stop walkthrough (with mistakes) takes about 10-12 hours. The whole game is overfilled with sparkling dark humor, unobvious puzzle solutions, and nontrivial mechanics.

Controls 5/5

Controls in this game are straightforward and similar to all traditional 1st person 3D shooters. You have to use WASD for moving and a mouse for aiming and shooting the portal gun. Entering a portal you don’t have to perform any particular actions. Portals push you out with the same speed and trajectory you enter them.

Replay Value 5/5

Portal 2 full game includes 6 hours of plot and about 6 hours of gameplay (with an average amount of deaths). There are two highly immersive campaigns for a solo and cooperative walkthrough. A few evenings of pleasurable play are guaranteed!

The Bottom Line

Portal 2 is a legendary game that deserves the attention of every gamer. Perhaps it’s the best game ever made by Valve Corporation since Half-Life. It presents an impressively detailed and exciting plot with incredibly relevant dark humor, multiple unique gameplay mechanics, and fine graphics.

Conclusion

Download Portal 2 to play the second chapter of the best action puzzles of all times. Loads of humor and brainstorming are guaranteed.
