Terminator: Resistance
Terminator: Resistance is the official game based on the first two movies that formed the cult. Enter the future, witness the machines against the people, and lead the Resistance to the victory! Download Terminator: Resistance for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One and enter the world we have just had a glance at in the movies!
Graphics 5/5
Its official, enough said. The future after the Judgment Day is rusty, bloody, and mean, and it shows in all the ruins and wrecks you see around. The killing machines are just those we have seen in the dilogy (and maybe closer in the now neverbeen sequels). You see them through the crosshair, as it’s a first-person shooter, and that lets you look at any of them closer before terminating. As for the music, it’s also from the original movies, now sounding louder and more astonishing.
Gameplay 5/5
Living after the Judgment Day is a constant manhunt, and your character is just a private, good at hiding and stealing. But he doesn’t know that he is among the primary Skynet targets. Why? That’s what he is to find out. It’s okay in Terminator universe to bear responsibility for something you haven’t done yet. The game is narrative based, though it leaves enough time for pure fighting.
There are numerous plasma guns, explosives, and other futuristic weapons you will have to use in your quests. But combats, as spectacular as they get, aren’t the only value in the game. You will meet a party of strange people, looking suspicious, and maybe they hide something. But you are to decide how to act with them, and this impacts the further events. Spoiler alert: like in T-2, there are multiple endings in Resistance.
There are long dialog scenes that help you both in your investigations and in moral choices. It leaves a better impression than any other Terminator-based or inspired game.
Controls 5/5
PC players are probably privileged again; first-person shooters are usually better with keyboard and mouse. Luckily, the lack of multiplayer doesn’t let this imbalance impact. There is a brief tutorial, and on consoles you can call them out at any moment. But probably you won’t have to, as the developers didn’t reinvent the wheel.
Replay Value 4/5
Hardly does the replay value of Resistance reach the rewatch value of the dilogy. But it’s quite a great new look at the Terminator universe that many players (we’re sure) will relaunch it over and over just to explore more details or to enjoy the world, even after all the endings have been reached.
The Bottom Line
It resembles what Star Wars franchise has received in Jedi: Fallen order. The world doesn’t need plain cosplay PvP. Players want a story that builds up; Terminator: Resistance delivers. It’s especially important as sequel movies are provoking hope but turn out completely unnecessary. This game is a good addition to the first two movies; hardly will it become as classic, but at least it doesn’t spoil the good work.
Original looks preserved;
On-rails shooting combined with run-and-gun;
The story builds up to the canon, the neverbeen sequels being ignored;
It’s Terminator!
