Crying Suns
Crying Suns is a tactical rogue-lite that offers you the role of a space fleet commander and the ability to explore a mysteriously fallen empire. You can download Crying Suns for Microsoft Windows and macOS.
Graphics 5/5
The graphics and visuals of Crying Suns are fantastic. It is a mix of 3D and parallax graphics. Character animations are very smooth and there is high-quality pixel art. The futuristic color scheme of the game is very pleasant to look at. It doesn’t feel overwhelming at all. All in all, Crying Suns is stylistically beautiful. Along with the convenient user interface, it makes for a very nice experience.
Gameplay 5/5
The gameplay of the game is very solid. Crying Suns is a game of average complexity. At first, it may look like not the easiest game to play, and you have to be patient and give it time in order to understand what is going on and how the game works. The gameplay of Crying Suns offers procedurally generated worlds with a total of 6 chapters. At the start of the game, you have the option to choose two crew members, and there will be some chances to find more along the way. You’ll start with the Starmap and will have the opportunity to travel, but all paths will lead to an end boss. Also, you should mind your fuel, as that is limited in quantity.
Some of the dialogues might get a little repetitive, but there is an option to 'skip dialogue' and make it '3x speed' to keep this from being annoying. Crying Suns will definitely keep your interest and bring up some cool philosophical points which make the plot deep and entertaining.
Controls 5/5
Controls of Crying Suns are quite good. The game can be fully played with a mouse. The combat system is nice. It is not very difficult to master even on hard difficulty. The combat mechanics may appear very simplistic at first, but recalling drones on time and overheating battleship components with damage adds a lot more complexity to the more complex battles. In Crying Suns there is a health bar. Any damage your hull takes, as long as it is not destroyed, regenerates at the end of each combat.
Replay Value 4/5
Crying Suns has an engaging storyline. It has boss battles, fighter craft combat, landing missions and other great little things that make playing the game a richer experience. The slightest mistake in timing or strategy can mean the difference between a swift victory and the rapid disintegration of an entire fleet. All of this adds replayability. But on the other hand, there isn’t much variety of events. The outcomes are mostly the same, so it’s most interesting to play through once.
The Bottom Line
Crying Suns is a great choice for those who like video games with interstellar travel. This game does an excellent job of telling a compelling story combined with exploration and combat.
Great animation and visuals;
Nice gameplay.
Replayability level.
