Imagine Hay Day or FarmVille seen from within, as a role-playing game. You see all the buildings, all the fields with crops, all the animals in their real sizes and proportions. Not from a bird’s eye, like in strategies, but from the eye of the farmer. It’s it. Suddenly, cows are as impressive as dragons in fantasy games, and fields of wheat are as great as those of fantastic plants. 

Gameplay 5/5

It starts in a familiar way: you visit the farm you have just inherited from your grandpa, and there is a friendly neighbor who gets you aware of what’s been going on. The buildings are old and half-ruined, the fields are abandoned, and all the animals have been sold out. Here’s the chance for a new start.

Looks familiar, err? But, unlike Hay Day or other Facebook-based games, you need to visit the spots in person to do some work (that is, to complete a quest). Your character is a quick learner, but some jobs require special tools or skills to obtain. Besides that, the new farmer needs to eat, sleep, and so on.

Finally, there are social elements: you have to get with your neighbors if you want your farm to prosper. In addition to your own farm, you can do some jobs for your neighbors and get rewarded for that. There is no logical end in this game; the sky is the limit for your farm. Hope that one of the next updates brings you space expansion, so you can plant your potatoes on Mars.

The game is made for PC and consoles, and even its PC version has full controller support. It’s not important for old school farming simulators, but this RPG-like view may feel much better when you control your character like you do in GTA V or The Witcher 3. Suddenly, a farming saga is as dynamic as a criminal or fantasy one, when you are holding your gamepad. 

Replay Value 5/5

It’s a single-player game and you can always save your progress. Not that it has a branched narrative with multiple endings, but some decisions you make may be mistaken enough for you to want them unmade. So, you can try various strategies in developing your farm. And, like in most farming games, the further you go, the more crops, animals, tools and products you unlock, the more diverse your social life gets, and the bigger market you discover.

The Bottom Line

Even if you have been neglectful towards Facebook-based farming strategies, this one is a completely different experience. Farmer’s Dynasty updates the genre and makes it an immersive RPG with very personal feel. If you want to discover a completely new take on an old genre, download Farmer’s Dynasty and establish your farm.
