Battlefield™ 1
Though the game is called Battlefield 1, it’s the 15th installment in the Battlefield series. These games tend to focus on history once again. It may seem weird to you as the war-themed shooters are from the last decade. But Battlefield 1 proves to be worth of that enthusiasm and eagerness. It features a massive and remarkable campaign supplemented with a fantastic multiplayer the series is known for.
For those who have never played such games, Battlefield 1 is a first-person shooter available to play on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One since October 21, 2016. The developers improved the game over previous installments Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline, so let’s check out what are the Battlefield 1 features in this review.
Graphics 4,5/5
Battlefield 1 looks good and manages to impress you with its presentation. The visuals from the environment to the personage models looks excellent. Besides, the sound design is also top notch. You’ll hear every detail, echo effects, great voice acting, and an immersive soundtrack. You’ll hear the quality sound despite constant explosions and shots.
What makes the battles original is the intuitive destruction and the dynamic weather. You’ll have to adapt your tactics to frequent weather changes. For example, the fog or rain have an influence on what you see and hear.
Battlefield 1 differs from most shooters by its look and feel. The true-to-life weapons and vehicles of World War 1 are more primitive than we have now, that’s why they look rough, and arms have longer reload times.
As the combat progress, the field becomes more twisted and unrecognizable. Explosions leave gaping holes in the ground, the smoke, ash, and dust float in the air, making the game more challenging to play. All of that make Battlefield 1 stand out.
The map design is excellent and offers you a lot of landmark structures that are equally entertaining to explore and demolish. Each map has an exceptional piece of architecture, which will once fall to pieces as the battle continues.
Gameplay 4/5
Battlefield 1 is inspired by historical events which are unfolding at a rapid pace during the World War I. The game strongly relies on the teamwork. You’ll use the bolt-action, automatic or semi-automatic rifles, mustard gas, and other World War I weapons to fight your enemies. The new melee weapons are sabers, shovels, and trench clubs.
As for vehicles, you will be able to control both light and heavy tanks, cars, armored trains and trucks, torpedo boats, dreadnoughts, and even ride horses during the battles.
The campaign mode has now more open, vast, and destructible environments. You’ll have more freedom of action and how to approach the battles. Playing a couple of soldiers in the campaign is possible. You won’t have to reload from the checkpoint in case you die in the prolog — just take control of another character and role.
In Battlefield, you will be able to choose the Classes while playing Multiplayer. Each class owns unique items and uses weapons only available to them. The core classes are:
- assault;
- medic;
- support;
- scout.
You may also select the additional classes like a Cavalry class for spawning on a horse, or a pilot for spawning in a plane. The tanker class is right for you if you decide to spawn in a tank. Remember that after you leave a vehicle, you will stay with the same class. The mighty Elite Classes are special spawns that you can get in the midst of battle to turn you into one of the infamous killing machines.
The story’s point is not to portray heroes. The game is simply about the war and brave characters doing incredible things. The gameplay is diverse. You can pave the way through walls and buildings, defeat the opponents in a creative way, or leave a mark on the terrain around you using the intuitive destruction. Your actions will change the landscape and the whole world forever.
Controls 4,5/5
Battlefield brings you back to the World War 1, when the armored vehicles, automatic and semi-automatic weapons, and the hand to hand combat were widespread. They changed the warfare of the future.
You will have to perform different actions and complete the missions, so there are lots of controls to learn and stick to in various scenarios. However, those are common controls, and you’ll quickly remember what to do and which button to press in a range of situations.
You’ll find a list of the controls in the Battlefield 1 menu. They are simple to understand and use. Just don’t forget that not all the controls apply to all the classes of soldiers. Some of them are dedicated to a particular class, for example, the repair function.
Replay Value 4/5
Battlefield 1 offers a lot of things to do. It’s impossible to play this game for just a day and forget about it. You’ll take part in colossal battles, find and use cool weaponry and vehicles, battle across the air, land, water, and apply your strategy to earth-shattering devastation.
You will be able to explore the map, progress through a campaign offering you loads of adventures, join in powerful multiplayer clashes with up to 64 players and start as vigorous battles as you can.
In-app Purchases
You may buy Battlefield 1 and stop spending money at this point. But the war is severe, so you’d better be well-armed. You will be able to buy the Ultimate or Deluxe edition and the premium pass content. Plus, you can get various add-ons like up to 20 battlepacks, or extras and bundles. All of that is pretty expensive, so think twice before buying anything.
Conclusion
Battlefield 1 is a game based on the World War I theme and appreciated due to its graphic and sound design, multiplayer mode, and the single-player campaign. It puts together a superlative campaign experience.
Exciting air battles;
Dynamic weather;
A lot of destruction;
Various classes.
The campaign finishes too soon.
